Dar calls for revitalised SAARC guided by Charter principles

July 14, 2026 (MLN): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar called for a revitalised SAARC that upholds the principles of its Charter, stressing that regional connectivity, sustainable development and the collective well-being of South Asia's peoples must remain central to the grouping's future direction.

The deputy prime minister made these remarks during a meeting with SAARC Secretary General Md. Golam Sarwar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he pointed to the region's vast demographic and economic potential and reaffirmed Islamabad's continued commitment to the SAARC process.

He also acknowledged the Secretary General's contribution towards fostering closer cooperation among member states, APP reported.

For his part, the Secretary General acknowledged Pakistan's sustained backing of SAARC and its affiliated institutions, and credited the country for the constructive part it has played in advancing peace both regionally and globally.

As the Secretary General's tenure draws to a close, the deputy prime minister extended his good wishes for the remainder of his term and for his future undertakings.
