June 30, 2025 (MLN): The urgent need to strengthen effective communication and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the banking sector was emphasized by the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Rafat Mukhtar.

This was discussed during a high-level meeting held at the National Bank Headquarters, chaired by the DG FIA, with representatives from the Bankers Association of Pakistan.

The primary focus of the meeting was to enhance institutional coordination on issues related to financial crimes, cyber threats, and regulatory compliance.

It also aimed to address and review the ongoing challenges faced by the banking sector in these critical areas, as per the press release issued.

During the session, representatives from various banks presented their concerns, highlighted operational difficulties, and put forward suggestions to improve the existing systems.

In response, detailed consultations were held to refine mechanisms for taking timely action against banking fraud, financial irregularities, and ensuring the provision of legal assistance where necessary.

Assuring full institutional support, DG FIA reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working collaboratively with the banking sector.

Participants also engaged in discussions on potential joint initiatives and explored areas of mutual interest for future collaboration.

As a follow-up, it was decided that the next review meeting would be convened in the first week of October to assess the progress made and further institutionalize cooperation between the FIA and the banking sector.
