October 12, 2026 (MLN): China’s Shengtang Group has expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities worth $10 million in Pakistan, with potential projects spanning electric vehicles (EVs), industrial development, energy, infrastructure, railways, tourism and urban development.

The proposed investment was discussed during a meeting between a delegation of the Chinese group and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, where both sides explored avenues for economic cooperation, including a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth $10m.

Haroon Akhtar said the government was working to translate Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of stronger ties with China into tangible economic outcomes by facilitating Chinese investors and improving the business environment.

He highlighted ongoing regulatory reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment and promoting industrial growth, while identifying the land-lease model as a key mechanism to facilitate investors and support industrial development.

Inviting Chinese businesses to explore Pakistan’s investment potential, the adviser said the country had demonstrated reliability and resilience internationally, adding that the current environment presented opportunities for investors.

Emphasizing the longstanding relationship between the two countries, Haroon said Pakistan and China shared ties that were “thicker than blood.” He noted that around 40% of the numerous joint ventures and MoUs signed between the two countries had reportedly moved into the implementation phase.

He added that increased Chinese investment could accelerate industrial expansion, encourage technology transfer, stimulate economic activity and generate employment opportunities.

The adviser also identified electric vehicles as a promising area for future investment, noting that cooperation with Chinese companies could help Pakistan advance EV technology and strengthen its industrial capabilities.

Haroon assured the visiting delegation of the government’s full support in facilitating investment and presented a commemorative souvenir to the Chinese representatives.

Additional Secretary Humaira Zia Mufti, Joint Secretary Freedoon Akram Sheikh and Joint Secretary Amir Aqiq were also present at the meeting.
