China’s ODI climbs 3.8% to $86.53bn in first half of 2026

July 29, 2026 (MLN): China recorded 596.42bn yuan ($86.53bn) in outbound direct investment (ODI) across all industries during the first half of 2026, marking a 3.8% year-on-year increase, official data showed.

Chinese domestic investors directed 453.06bn yuan in non-financial direct investment toward 6,867 overseas companies operating across 144 countries and regions, according to figures from the Ministry of Commerce and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

Investment in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) declined 11.1% year on year, with China’s non-financial ODI in these countries reaching 120.77bn yuan during the January-June period.

Chinese companies also recorded 606.26 billion yuan in turnover from contracted overseas projects during the first six months, representing an 8% year-on-year increase.

In BRI partner countries, turnover from contracted overseas projects rose 11.8% year on year to 520.71bn yuan during the period.
