China vows to fight to the end after U.S imposes 100% tariffs

October 14, 2025 (MLN): China has pledged to “fight to the end” in its escalating trade war with the United States, after President Donald Trump imposed an additional 100% tariff on all Chinese goods.

“On the matter of tariff wars and trade wars, China’s position remains consistent,” a spokesperson from the Commerce Ministry said. “If you wish to fight, we shall fight to the end; if you wish to negotiate, our door remains open.”, as reported by APP.

The latest move by Washington has heightened global concerns about worsening tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

Trump said the new tariffs were a response to Beijing’s recent decision to impose sweeping export controls on rare earth materials a critical sector in which China maintains global dominance.

Markets reacted sharply to the headline, casting doubt on a potential meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

Trump also revealed plans to impose U.S. export controls “on any and all critical software” starting November 1.

In response, China defended its export control measures, describing them as legitimate steps to strengthen its regulatory system.

“As a responsible major power, China has consistently and resolutely safeguarded its own national security and international collective security,” the Commerce Ministry spokesperson said.
