China to issue 6bn yuan sovereign bonds in Macao

August 10, 2026 (MLN): China's central government will issue 6-billion-yuan (about $884 million) worth of sovereign bonds to professional investors in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on August 20.

A joint announcement by China's Ministry of Finance and the Macao SAR government said the issuance marks the fifth consecutive year of renminbi-denominated sovereign bonds being floated in Macao, reflecting the central government's continued support for the region's economic diversification and for strengthening the competitiveness of its financial sector, APP reported.

The bonds feature a more diversified structure this time around, which will further refine the regular issuance mechanism and offer investors more secure and stable renminbi-denominated investment options.
