China opens BRICS Customs Centre to boost trade ties

July 07, 2025 (MLN): The BRICS Customs Centre of Excellence was officially inaugurated in Xiamen, located in east China's Fujian Province, to foster deeper economic and trade cooperation among BRICS nations.

The centre is part of the China-initiated Smart Customs Cooperation Partnership programme, which aims to enhance development and collaboration among BRICS countries in the area of smart customs.

According to China Central Television (CCTV), the centre has launched a Smart Customs Centre of Excellence website along with a dedicated capacity-building platform.

It is also highlighting China’s experiences to support coordinated customs development among BRICS nations, as APP reported.

The Smart Customs Cooperation Partnership programme was initially proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the 2023 BRICS Plus Dialogue in South Africa.

The initiative is designed to promote technological innovation in customs and encourage digital transformation.

It also aims to bridge the digital divide, enabling BRICS countries to address global challenges more effectively.
