China State Construction to rehabilitate N-5 in Sindh

October 19, 2026 (MLN): China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd has been picked to rehabilitate sections of National Highway N-5 in Sindh under a $100mn Chinese grant-funded project of the National Highway Authority (NHA), with the contract now drafted and ready for signing after the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) cleared the project on February 27, 2026.

The project falls under the Ministry of Communications and targets the improvement of key stretches of N-5, one of the country's main transport arteries linking major cities, commercial hubs, industrial zones and agricultural markets, APP reported.

The rehabilitation is expected to make roads safer and driving conditions better, easing the movement of passenger and freight traffic along the selected sections.

The project is also seen lowering vehicle operating costs and travel delays, improving logistics efficiency and strengthening domestic supply chains, which should benefit transporters, businesses and communities along the highway.

The $100mn grant reflects bilateral cooperation between the two countries in infrastructure development, with better road connectivity expected to support trade, logistics and economic activity in the region.
