Cement despatches decline nearing 1% in August

September 02, 2026 (MLN):  Cement despatches declined 0.70% in Aug-26, with the industry despatching 4.039 (million tons) mt against 4.068mt in the same month of the last fiscal year, data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association showed.

Local despatches fell 1.07% to 3.283mt from 3.318mt in Aug-25, while export despatches edged up 0.92% to 756,553 tons from 749,683 tons.

North based mills despatched 2.691mt of cement in Aug-26, down 9.43% from 2.972mt in Aug-25, entirely in the domestic market, as the region recorded no exports during the month. Domestic despatches by North based mills fell 2.59% to 2.691mt against 2.763mt a year earlier.

South based mills despatched 1.35mt in Aug-26, up 22.97% from 1.096mt in Aug-25, said a press release issued.

Domestic despatches from the South rose 6.53% to 591,164 tons against 554,947 tons, while exports from the region surged 39.83% to 756,553 tons from 541,054 tons.

Total cement despatches during the first two months of the current fiscal year rose 2.80% to 8.521mt, compared with 8.289mt despatched during the corresponding period of last fiscal year.

Domestic despatches during Jul-Aug FY26 increased 8.04% to 7.058mt against 6.533mt in the same period last year, while export despatches fell 16.69% to 1.464mt compared with 1.757mt a year earlier.

For the first two months of FY26, North based mills' domestic despatches rose 7.98% to 5.784mt against 5.356mt in Jul-Aug FY25, while the region recorded no exports during the period compared with 440,614 tons a year earlier.

Total despatches by North based mills consequently slipped 0.22% to 5.784mt from 5.797mt.

South based mills' domestic despatches during Jul-Aug FY26 grew 8.28% to 1.274mt from 1.177mt, while exports from the South rose 11.21% to 1.463mt against 1.316mt in the same period last year.

Total despatches by South based mills climbed 9.83% to 2.738mt from 2.493mt.

A spokesman of the association raised alarm over the situation in the northern parts of the country amid heavy rains, noting that agriculture and housing have been badly hit by the floods, and called for government support to help affected communities cope.
