August 31, 2026 (MLN): The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) has mobilized Rs313 billion from July 1 to August 20, meeting its savings mobilization target for the period and recording a strong start to fiscal year 2026-27.
Officials attributed the performance to improved
institutional efficiency, stronger investor confidence and sustained demand for
secure, government-backed savings instruments, according to APP.
Following the early achievement, CDNS has set an overall
mobilization target of Rs1.53 trillion for FY2026-27. The target is aimed at
strengthening domestic savings, expanding investment opportunities and
increasing access to formal financial products.
The institution is also seeking to expand its Islamic
finance portfolio, with Shariah-compliant savings products being positioned as
a key component of its strategy to attract a broader investor base.
For FY2025-26, CDNS had set a Rs60bn target for Islamic
savings instruments. In the preceding fiscal year, it had earmarked Rs170
billion for Islamic investments as part of its overall Rs1.65tr mobilization
target.
CDNS has maintained a substantial mobilization record in
recent years. It exceeded its Rs1.7tr target in FY2023-24 by mobilizing Rs1.74tr,
while in FY2022-23 it achieved its Rs1.6tr target.
In FY2021-22, the institution increased its initial Rs1.3tr
mobilization target to Rs1.4tr amid favourable market conditions and stronger
resource mobilization.
Officials said ongoing reforms, operational improvements and
measures to enhance accessibility had supported the institution’s performance
and expanded the reach of National Savings products.
They added that the continued focus on product
diversification, digital transformation and Shariah-compliant instruments would
remain central to CDNS’s strategy as it works towards its FY2026-27 target.
