July 16, 2026 (MLN): Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and National
Accountability Bureau (NAB) have agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation
to promote market discipline, curb anti-competitive practices, and protect
public funds from corruption.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between CCP Chairman Farid
Ahmed Tarar and NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmed, held at NAB Headquarters
in Islamabad, said a press release issued.
Briefing the NAB chief on the Commission's mandate, Farid Tarar said the
CCP works to preserve free and fair competition across commercial and economic
sectors, with the aim of improving economic efficiency and shielding consumers
from practices such as abuse of market dominance, collusive agreements, and
misleading advertising.
He added that a level playing field for all market participants remained
central to the Commission's work, calling it a prerequisite for sustainable
growth and stronger investor confidence.
The NAB chairman, for his part, described the CCP as a key pillar in
maintaining transparency in the market and assured the Bureau's full
cooperation in the Commission's drive against unfair trade practices.
He observed that the two organizations were aligned in their broader
purpose of protecting the economic interests of the state and the public by
keeping commercial and administrative processes free of corruption and
collusion.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular engagement to reinforce their
respective regulatory and accountability roles, reaffirming that a
competition-friendly environment is vital to the country's long-term economic
development.
The meeting ended with both chairmen reiterating their institutions'
resolve to jointly promote accountability and fair competition in the economy.
