Banks, DFIs surrender unclaimed deposits to SBP

February 23, 2026 (MLN): Banks and DFIs across Pakistan have surrendered all unclaimed deposits to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) up to December 31, 2024.

These deposits include fixed deposits, other deposits, cheques, drafts, and bills of exchange that have remained inactive for over ten years, excluding accounts held by minors, the Government, or courts of law.

All banks have disclosed their unclaimed deposits, making them available for claims through the SBP.

Account holders or their successors can now file claims to recover these deposits.

Claims must be submitted at the branch where the account was originally opened. If the branch has been closed or shifted, claimants may approach the nearest branch of the same bank.

For banks involved in mergers or acquisitions, the nearest branch of the acquiring bank can be contacted.

Applicants are required to submit a signed application detailing the account, along with a valid CNIC or passport.

In the case of deceased account holders, a succession certificate issued by a competent court of law is required.

For deceased deposits under Rs100,000, an indemnity bond on Rs100/- non-judicial stamp paper signed by all legal heirs, along with copies of CNICs and the death certificate of the account holder or beneficiary, must be submitted.

Once the branch forwards all documents and records to the relevant SBP quarter, the claims are verified and processed.

After verification, the SBP facilitates the refund through the respective bank or DFI, crediting the surrendered amount to the applicant.

Claimants can also view notifications and updates regarding unclaimed deposits and bank mergers.
