Bank deposits increase to Rs37.4tr in Dec

January 28, 2026 (MLN): The total deposits held by scheduled banks have moved up by 5.8% to Rs37.43 trillion in December compared to Rs35.38tr by the end of last month.

When compared to the same month of last year, banks' deposits have risen by 23.6%, compared to Rs30.28tr held in December 2024, data released by the central bank showed.


Total advances increased by 10.9% to Rs14.88tr compared to Rs13.42tr a month ago. Meanwhile, advances decreased by 7.1% from their value of Rs16.01tr from a year ago.

As a result of weak momentum of deposits and strong inflow of advances, the Advances to Deposits Ratio (ADR) rose to 39.8%, an increase of 182 basis points on a monthly basis.


Total investments increased by 3.2% to Rs37.91tr from last month. While compared to last year, investments rose 30.1%.

Investment to Deposit Ratio (IDR) moved down by 254bps to 101.3% compared to last month and increased by 509 bps when compared to a year ago.
