Bank deposit rate falls by 41bps in July

August 22, 2025 (MLN): The return on bank deposits has decreased by 41 basis points to 2.98% in July 2025 compared to the deposit rate of 3.39% last month, according to the latest official data.

On a yearly basis, the weighted average rate paid for deposits by the banking sector has decreased by 1,612bps compared to the return of 19.10% last year.

Meanwhile, the lending rate for all scheduled banks stood at 11.99%, up 32bps compared to June. While it fell 732bps compared to the same month of last year.

Accordingly, the banking sector spread increased by 73bps to 901bps in July 2025 compared to a spread of 828bps last month.

The real deposit rate, after adjusting for inflation, stood at -0.97% while the real lending rate stood at 8.04%.
