Azerbaijan’s SOCAR signals LNG supply readiness for Pakistan

April 22, 2026 (MLN): Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR is prepared to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan once it receives a formal purchase request.

According to SOCAR, a framework agreement signed in 2025 between SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG enables Pakistan to procure LNG cargoes directly through an expedited process.

The company confirmed it is ready to proceed with deliveries once Pakistan LNG Limited submits the relevant request, though it did not clarify whether any such request has already been made or provide details on timing, volumes, or cargo origin, as reported by Reuters.

Pakistan continues to depend heavily on natural gas for its energy mix and has increasingly turned to spot LNG purchases amid declining domestic production and volatility in global gas markets, which has been further affected by regional geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Iran-related conflict.
