Aurangzeb signals confidence in IMF approval, cites eurobond success

April 14, 2026 (MLN):   Pakistan’s economic reform programme received a boost as Finance Minister signaled confidence in early approval of the IMF deal following a successful staff-level agreement, while also highlighting the country’s resilience through a recent Eurobond repayment and commitment to meeting all external obligations despite global economic pressures.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a meeting with Jihad Azour of the International Monetary Fund, along with the IMF mission to Pakistan, on the sidelines of the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings 2026, according to a press release issued.

 During the discussion, Federal Minister for Finance Aurangzeb appreciated the Staff-Level Agreement and expressed hope for swift approval by the IMF Executive Board.

He also briefed the IMF on the economic impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict, calling it a major supply shock, and outlined Pakistan’s efforts to manage its effects on growth and inflation.

Both sides reviewed progress on fiscal and structural reforms, emphasizing the need to sustain macroeconomic stability for long-term inclusive growth.
