November 04, 2026 (MLN): Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 leading regional losses after tumbling more than 4%, as renewed concerns over artificial intelligence stocks dampened investor sentiment ahead of the U.S. midterm election results.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 plunged 4.45% to its lowest level since May, while the broader Topix index declined more than 3%. Technology and energy stocks were among the biggest drags on the benchmark, according to LSEG data, according to CNBC.

The decline followed growing concerns about the possibility of tighter restrictions on data-centre development under a potential Democratic-controlled U.S. Congress, raising uncertainty over future spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Elsewhere in the region, South Korea’s Kospi gained 2.95%, while the small-cap Kosdaq advanced 1.85%.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.45%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng futures traded at 23,400, below the index’s previous close of 23,525.97.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei 225 futures in Chicago stood at 63,410, while Osaka futures were at 63,090, compared with the previous close of 63,081.86.

Investors remained focused on developments in U.S. technology stocks and the outcome of the midterm elections for further direction.
