October 27, 2026 (MLN): Asian markets advanced on Tuesday, led by technology and semiconductor stocks, as optimism over Anthropic’s initial public offering (IPO) filing lifted investor sentiment following gains on Wall Street.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 1.7%, while the Topix gained
0.4%. South Korea’s Kospi surged 3.8%, and the technology-focused Kosdaq rose
2.9%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200, however, declined 0.32%, according to CNBC.
Japanese technology stocks posted strong gains, with
Advantest surging 8.8% and SoftBank Group rising 7.6%. Tokyo Electron added
3.86%, while Kioxia advanced 2.5%.
In South Korea, SK Hynix gained 7.1%, while Samsung
Electronics climbed 5.2%, reflecting renewed strength across the semiconductor
sector.
The gains followed a positive session on Wall Street, where
technology shares outperformed after Anthropic filed to go public on the
Nasdaq. The proposed listing would mark another major technology IPO in 2026,
following SpaceX’s listing in June.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 146.42 points, or
0.3%, on Monday. The S&P 500 gained 0.7%, while the Nasdaq Composite
advanced 0.8%. Tesla shares climbed more than 5%, Nvidia added 2%, and
Microsoft and Amazon also ended higher.
Despite the latest gains, technology stocks across Asia have
experienced considerable volatility in recent sessions.
South Korea’s semiconductor-heavy market has swung between
sharp declines and record gains, while concerns over the substantial borrowing
required to finance artificial intelligence infrastructure have weighed on
investor sentiment.
Market participants are also monitoring geopolitical
developments as tensions between the United States and Iran persist. CNN
reported that U.S. forces in the Middle East could begin operations against
Tehran within 96 hours of an order from President Donald Trump.
Regional index futures pointed to further gains in parts of
Asia. Chicago-traded Nikkei 225 futures stood at 63,060, while Osaka futures
were at 62,890, compared with the index’s previous close of 62,189.65. Hong
Kong’s Hang Seng futures traded at 23,233 against the previous close of
23,211.81.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 opened 0.17% lower, indicating a
mixed start across the region.
Investors are also preparing for a busy week of corporate
earnings, with Coca-Cola, Robinhood and Boeing scheduled to report
third-quarter results on Tuesday. Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon are among the
major technology companies due to release earnings later in the week.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is set to begin its latest
monetary policy meeting. Although interest rates are widely expected to remain
unchanged, investors will scrutinise the central bank’s decision and
accompanying signals for clues about the possibility of another rate increase
before the end of the year.
Beyond corporate earnings and monetary policy, market participants will assess upcoming U.S. economic releases, including durable goods orders, consumer confidence and new home sales data, for further indications of economic conditions.
