June 09, 2026 (MLN): Asian equity markets moved higher on Tuesday, with technology shares leading the advance as investors renewed their appetite for artificial intelligence-related stocks following a strong session on Wall Street.

South Korea's semiconductor sector posted notable gains, with memory chip producer SK Hynix surging 6.44%, while Samsung Electronics added 3.38%.

Seoul Semiconductor was among the region's top performers, climbing more than 12%, according to CNBC.

Japanese technology and semiconductor-related stocks also traded firmly in positive territory.

Chip equipment manufacturer Tokyo Electron jumped 5.65%, Advantest rose 1.51%, and Renesas Electronics gained 2.54%.

In contrast, Japanese investment conglomerate SoftBank extended its recent weakness, declining 2%.

The upbeat sentiment followed a positive close in the United States, where semiconductor stocks fueled a broader market recovery.

The S&P 500 rose 0.3% on Monday, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.86%, recovering part of the losses recorded during last week's technology-sector selloff.

According to Andrew Jackson, equity strategist at ORTUS Advisors, the recent shift by investors toward defensive domestic stocks is unlikely to persist in the near term as interest returns to growth and AI-focused companies.

He noted that market volatility could remain elevated throughout the week as investors prepare for several major capital market events, including the anticipated pricing of SpaceX's initial public offering and the commencement of trading later in the week.

Market participants are also closely monitoring a growing pipeline of artificial intelligence-related listings.

Investor focus intensified after reports that OpenAI confidentially filed for an IPO, following similar developments involving Anthropic, adding to expectations of a new wave of high-profile AI market debuts.

Jackson said the planned listings could absorb a significant amount of investor capital, particularly given OpenAI's valuation of more than $850bn, potentially tightening liquidity available for other growth-oriented investments.
