October 08, 2026 (MLN): Asian markets traded lower on Thursday, weighed down by losses on Wall Street as elevated U.S. Treasury yields continued to pressure risk appetite following signals from the Federal Reserve that another interest rate hike could be warranted this year.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.12%, while the broader Topix declined 0.8%. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 2.04%, with the Kosdaq down 0.9%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 shed 0.64%, while China’s CSI 300 declined 0.43% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.69%.

The weakness followed minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest meeting, which showed that most policymakers viewed another rate increase before year-end as appropriate, citing inflation that remains above the central bank’s 2% target, according to CNBC.

However, the minutes did not provide a clear timeline for another hike, with policymakers emphasizing that future monetary policy decisions would remain dependent on incoming economic data.

Higher bond yields have weighed on equities in recent weeks, particularly sectors sensitive to borrowing costs. Industrials have been among the weakest-performing areas of the U.S. market this week.

Despite the pressure from elevated rates, investor sentiment remains supported by expectations of strong corporate earnings. The S&P 500 is expected to post blended third-quarter earnings growth of around 30%, potentially extending its streak of quarterly growth above 25% to three consecutive quarters, according to FactSet.

Investors will now focus on PepsiCo’s earnings report, due before the U.S. market open, along with weekly jobless claims data for further clues on the strength of the economy and the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook.
