Asia markets trade mixed amid Nvidia-driven tech drop

February 27, 2026 (MLN): Asia markets traded mixed on Friday, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street after Nvidia shares tumbled despite reporting a quarterly earnings beat.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.6%, while the broader Topix was flat. The Nikkei had touched the 59,000 level for the first time on Thursday before trimming gains.

In South Korea, the Kospi declined 1.1%, while the Kosdaq slipped 0.35%, according to CNBC.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.68%, while mainland China’s CSI 300 fell 0.49%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was flat in early trade.

Technology stocks in Asia declined in early trading. South Korea’s SK Hynix dropped more than 2%, while Samsung Electronics fell 0.69%. Japan’s SoftBank Group declined over 3%.

Overnight in the U.S., the S&P 500 fell 0.54% to 6,908.86, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.18% to 22,878.38. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.03% to 49,499.20.

Shares of Nvidia fell more than 5%, marked their worst day since April, despite posting a fourth-quarter earnings and revenue beat. Other chip stocks, including Broadcom, Lam Research, Western Digital, and Applied Materials, also declined.
