November 19, 2025 (MLN): In a first for Pakistan, state-owned Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL) is preparing to construct an artificial island for dramatically increasing its oil and gas exploration activities.

The details, reported by Bloomberg News, indicate the new drilling platform will be located roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) off the southern Sindh coast.

PPL’s General Manager of Exploration and Core Business Development, Arshad Palekar, confirmed the plans during an industry conference in Islamabad.

Palekar explained that the structure is designed to be six feet high.

This feature is crucial because it will allow exploration work to continue around the clock, preventing interruptions from high tides.

The company aims to drill approximately 25 wells from the site once construction is finalized, which is projected for February.
