Amreli Steels extends SITE rolling mill shutdown by another year

June 30, 2026 (MLN): Amreli Steels Limited (PSX: ASTL) has extended the suspension of operations at its SITE Rolling Mill (SRM) for another year, citing persistent weak market conditions and challenging economic factors that continue to weigh on the steel industry.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Tuesday, the company said a fresh review of the facility's operational status concluded that the conditions that prompted the temporary shutdown remain unchanged, making it prudent to prolong the suspension.

The decision, the company said, reflects a focus on disciplined operational and financial management as Pakistan's steel sector continues to grapple with subdued demand and a difficult business environment.

Amreli Steels added that it will continue to monitor economic and market developments and periodically reassess the possibility of restarting operations at the SITE Rolling Mill if industry conditions improve meaningfully.

The company, however, emphasized that its Dhabeji manufacturing facility remains fully operational.

The plant accounts for 100% of the company's billet manufacturing capacity and around 70% of its rebar production capacity, enabling it to continue meeting business requirements and anticipated market demand despite the prolonged closure of the SITE facility.
