October 20, 2026 (MLN): Profit for the period of Attock Refinery Limited (PSX: ATRL) rose more than eight-fold to Rs19.61bn for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (1QFY27), compared with Rs2.40bn in the same period last year.

Basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) climbed to Rs183.89 from Rs22.52 in 1QFY26. Refinery operations contributed Rs174.00 per share, up from Rs13.85, while non-refinery operations contributed Rs9.89, up from Rs8.67.

The surge came from a more than doubling of net sales and a near 30-fold jump in gross profit. A sharp rise in other charges, a higher tax bill and increased finance costs only partly offset the gains.

Gross sales more than doubled, rising 129.78% to Rs202.71bn from Rs88.22bn. Taxes, duties, levies and price differential also more than doubled, to Rs58.83bn from Rs28.85bn, and net sales rose to Rs143.88bn from Rs59.37bn, up 142.36%.

Cost of sales grew 96.53% to Rs114.73bn from Rs58.38bn, slower than net sales, which lifted gross profit nearly 30-fold to Rs29.15bn from Rs986.03m.

Administration expenses rose 17.94% to Rs557.75m from Rs472.90m, and distribution cost edged up 2.62% to Rs27.50m from Rs26.80m.

Other charges surged nearly 12-fold to Rs2.18bn from Rs184.86m. Together, these expenses grew more than four-fold to Rs2.77bn from Rs684.56m.

Other income rose 47.23% to Rs3.21bn from Rs2.18bn. The company also booked a net impairment loss on financial assets of Rs1.06m, against a reversal of Rs11.31m last year.

As a result, operating profit rose nearly 12-fold to Rs29.59bn from Rs2.49bn.

Finance cost (net) more than doubled to Rs169.72m from Rs75.80m.

Profit before taxation from refinery operations and subsidiary climbed more than 12-fold to Rs29.42bn from Rs2.42bn.

Taxation rose more than 11-fold to Rs10.87bn from Rs939.24m, leaving profit after taxation from refinery operations and subsidiary at Rs18.55bn, more than 12 times the Rs1.48bn recorded last year.

Non-refinery income, represented by the share in profit of associated companies, rose 14.11% to Rs1.05bn from Rs924.25m, taking profit for the period to Rs19.61bn.
