Weekly SPI Increases by 0.22 Percent

August 27, 2021 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.22% during the week ended Aug 26, 2021 while the SPI increased by 12.67% compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 152.14 compared to 151.8 on Aug 19, 2021 while the index was recorded at 135.03 a year ago, on Aug 27, 2020

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 22 items increased, 5 items decreased whereas 24 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.15% and 0.31%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.2% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.15%.

On an yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 12.09% and 15.86%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 15.86% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 12.27%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.1780 per 50 kg bag which is 0.06% higher than last week’s price and 6.33% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, average Cement price was recorded at Rs.673 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.15% higher than the previous week and 21.04% higher than prices last year.
