Weekly SPI falls by 0.04%

The Sensitive Price Indictor (SPI) for the week ended July 19, 2018 registered a decrease of 0.04% for the combined income group, going down from 228.78 points the week before to 228.68 points this week.

Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, SPI increased by 4.41% on a year on year (YoY) basis. SPI on a YoY basis during the week ending July 12, 2018 had been recorded at 4.25% previously.

Of the 53 items monitored, the average prices of 15 items registered an increase, 7 items decreased, while 31 items remained unchanged.

The items, which registered a decrease in their prices during the week under review included chicken, garlic, bananas, eggs, onions, pulse mash, and wheat.

The items, which registered an increase in prices included tomatoes, LPG cylinder, pulse masoor, red chilly powder, pulse gram, gur, cooking oil, vegetable ghee, tea, pulse moong, wheat flour, mustard oil, soap, sugar, and vegetable ghee.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice basmati, rice irri-6, plain bread, beef with bone, mutton, fresh milk, curd, powdered milk, potatoes, salk powder, cooked beef, cooked daal, prepared tea, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, geogette, gents sandal, gents slippers, ladies sandal, electricity charges upto 50 units, gas charges, kerosene oil, firewood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, Hi speed diesel (HSD), and telephone local charges.
