December 08, 2021 (MLN): Minister for Industries and Production Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar and Federal Minister for Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam on Wednesday said that urea prices had been restored to controlled rates at Rs1,768 per bag by taking punitive measures in Punjab, a government press release showed.

The two ministers held a review meeting to supervise urea supplies amidst Rabi season. The meeting was attended by representative from fertilizer manufacturers, provincial departments and senior officials of the Petroleum Division.

The meeting was informed that in addition to Punjab, pricing structure was being maintained in other provinces.

The ministers reiterated that urea demand would be met through domestic production as 3.4m metric tons were produced during the ongoing year.

They further added that the government ensured uninterrupted gas supplies to plants for boosting domestic production for Rabi season.

While being briefed on Urea supplies, they directed relevant authorities to carry vigilant border monitoring to avoid inter-provincial movement of urea supplies and rationalization of district wise provision of urea for market correction.
