April 1, 2019: The leadership of United Business Group (UBG) in Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Monday hailed Prime Minister Imran Khan's announcement of Rs 162 billion package for Karachi.

In a joint statement issued here, UBG's Patron-in-Chief, S.M. Muneer, Spokesman Gulzar Feroz, Secretary General Zubair F. Tufail and other leaders said the package would help improve infrastructure of the city.

They maintained that Karachi was facing acute shortage of water and public transport, its roads were damaged, sewerage system collapsed and heaps of garbage were seen everywhere.

Dilapidated infrastructure of the economic hub of the country was badly affecting its residents and the business community, they regretted.

They were of the view that although Karachi was contributing more than half of exports and a large share of total revenue of the country, yet the city lacked basic utilities. “Now, we hope that the situation will improve considerably,” S.M. Muneer said.

UBG's Secretary General Zubair F. Tufail proposed that a committee, including representatives of the FPCCI, be formed to monitor development work in the city.

He said it was a time to make comprehensive strategies for lasting improvement in the city's infrastructure.
