Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited the attention of Prime Minister Imran Khan to the need for the inclusion of its sector representatives in all advisory bodies of the state.

According to UNISAME, its members represent the majority sector in the business community, which makes the inclusion of its sector representatives absolutely necessary if the government is to expect full support for its policies and wishes to see economic growth continue on a fast track.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver opines that micro to medium sized sector (MSME) is the majority sector, comprising of farmers, traders, manufacturers and services providers besides hawkers and other home based units.

As such, the Union has a huge vote bank and is therefore a part and parcel of the voters who elected the parliamentarians. It is therefore necessary to have their representation in the advisory bodies of the government as well as private and public sector institutions.

Thaver holds the view that any policy made without the consensus of the MSME sector would be devoid of popular consent.

He went on to emphasize that all the SME promotion and development institutions such as SMEDA, SECP, PCSIR, NPO and SME Bank need to have an SME representative on their board of directors or governing bodies. As per him, this is important if they are to generate the best feedback and policy-making guidelines to facilitate, support, and uplift the sector scientifically and on modern lines, which take into account the needs of this sector.

Thaver appreciated the comments of the PM in his first address to the nation on television channels that the SME sector is the backbone of the economy and needs to be uplifted for economic growth.

According to a press release, UNISAME assured the PM and his government of full support and has promised to set up innovative industries and increase its productivity.

It has also committed to modernise its units and has requested the PM to facilitate its members and adopt friendly policies of taxation, provide uninterrupted energy, reduce duties on raw material, provide technical and marketing support and offer a conducive environment for a fast track MSME promotion and development.
