Transport group imports decline by 25.3% in September, YoY

October 24, 2019 (MLN): The imports of commodities within the transport group stood at $217 million during the month of September 2019, signifying an increase of 26.3% over the previous month and decline of 25.3% over the same period of last year.

According to the data compiled by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the imports during July-Sept (2019-20) were recorded at $537.8 million against the imports of $791.1 million during July-January (2018-19), suggesting a decline of 32%.

The imports of Completely Built Units (CBU) totaled $9.2 million i.e. 1.05% lower MoM and 78.1 lower YoY. Within this group, the highest imports were recorded for Motor Cars at $5.2 million, followed by buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles at $3.8 million.

On the other hand, the imports of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) or Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) units were recorded at $78 million, i.e. 17.8% lower MoM and 29.5% lower YoY. Within this segment, the import of buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles stood at $20.8 million, motor cars at $52.1 million, and motor cycles at $5.4 million.

The import of Aircrafts, Ships and Boats amounted to $93.7 million, which is 220.4% higher as compared to previous months and 42.2% as compared to same period of last year.
