Toyota Yaris tops passenger car sales chart in April 2021

May 17, 2021 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of April 2021 was recorded at 14,435 units against a total production of 14,416 units, which is around 15.60 percent lower as compared to the 17,105 units sold in March 2021.

This brought the cumulative sales for the tenth months of the current Fiscal Year at 126,679 units, which is higher by 48.46% as compared to the same period of last year.

According to a monthly report released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the maximum number of sales were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category at 6,838 units, down by 19 percent when compared to March 2021 sales figures. Within this category, Toyota Yaris recorded the highest sales at 2,600 units, followed by Honda Cars (Civic & City), Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Suzuki Swift which sold 2,053, 1,724, 280 and 252 units, respectively.

The second-highest number of sales were made within the 'Below 1000cc' category at 4,838 units. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the highest sales at 4,091 units, followed by Suzuki Bolan which sold 747 units.

On the contrary, the '1000 cc' category witnessed a sale of 2,759 units during the month wherein Suzuki WagonR recorded the highest sales at 1,447 units, followed by Suzuki Cultus that sold 1,312 units.

The total number of trucks sold during the month stood at 282 units, down by 44.5 percent MoM. Isuzu emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of around 161 units during the month, with MASTER following the lead with sales of 71 units. HINO and JAC made sales of 46 units and 4 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 51 units, which signifies a decrease of 24 percent as compared to the previous month. Within this segment, Master made the maximum sales at 39 units, while Hino took the second spot by selling around 9 units during the period under review.
