Toyota Yaris takes a significant hit while continuing to lead the passenger car segment in November

December 11, 2020 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of November 2020 was recorded at 11,914 units against a total production of 11,352 units, showing a meager decline of 0.69% as compared to the 11,997 units sold in October 2020.

The cumulative sales for the ongoing Fiscal Year 2021 amounted to 55,779 units, which is nearly 13.6% higher than the units sold in the same period of last year.

According to a monthly report released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (PAMA), the highest volumetric sales during the month were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category’ at 6,244 units, i.e. 2.6% lower as compared to the previous month.

Within this category, Toyota Yaris had the highest sales at 2,338 units, even though it is lesser by 23.5% as compared to the previous month. This was followed by Honda cars, Toyota Corolla, and Suzuki Swift which sold 2,088, 1,704, and 114 units respectively.

The 'Below 1000 cc' category witnessed the second-highest number of sales at 3,272 units, i.e lower by 8.42% as compared to the previous month. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded a sale of 2,723 units, whereas Suzuki Bolan saw a sale of only 549 units.

On the contrary, the ‘1000cc’ category witnessed a sale of 2,398 units, which is 19% higher as compared to the previous month. It is interesting to note that despite having the lowest sales in passenger cars, this category was the only one to witness positive growth. Within this segment, Suzuki Cultus sold 1,517 units while Suzuki WagonR sold 881 units.  

The total number of trucks sold during the month under review stood at 255 units, showing a decline of 20.2% against the 321 units sold in the previous month. Isuzu appeared as the best-selling truck, with sales of 110 units, while MASTER, HINO and JAC made sales of 353, 75, and 12 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 60 units, which signifies an increase of 33% as compared to 45 units sold in the last month. Within this segment, Isuzu made the maximum sales at 28 units, while MASTER and HINO took the second and third spot by selling 17 and 15 units respectively.
