Textile Imports down 5.76 percent in April, 2018

According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), total textile imports during the month of April clocked in at $329.274 million; posting a decline of 5.76 percent from March’s imports of $381.238 million.

Compared to that, year on year growth in the Textile imports went down by more than 0.51 percent during the month of April. The total imports during the month of April 2018 against April 2017 shrank by $21.964 million.

Textile items imported to Pakistan mainly include Raw Cotton, Synthetic Fibre, Synthetic and Artificial Silk, Worn Clothing and other Textile Items.

The major chunk of imports under the Textile head was mainly in the Raw Cotton which contributed a total of 48.71 percent of the entire imports. Total Raw Cotton imported during the month of April, 2018 clocked in by $175.011 million grew from $148.013 million same month last year.

PBS data reveals the second major chunk of imports under the Textile head was mainly in the Synthetic and Artificial Silk which contributed a total of 14.33 percent of the entire imports. Synthetic and Artificial Silk imported during the month of April, 2018 clocked in at $51.489 million rise from $44.216 million same month last year.

Furthermore, year on year imports in other textile items went down by 35.15 percent during April, 2018 with a month on month decrease by 17.47 percent.

Total Synthetic Fibre imports clocked in at $47.002 million, shrank by 8.91 percent to 182.995 million during the period March 2017.
