March 28, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index ended Thursday's trading session at a record high of 67,142.12 showing an increase of 594.34 points or 0.89%.

The index remained positive throughout the day, showing an intraday high of 67,246.03 (+698.24) and a low of 66,690.94 (+143.15) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 231.314 million shares.

Despite concerns, FTSE Russell kept Pakistan's status as a secondary emerging market in its latest review.

However, it also kept Pakistan on the watch list for possible demotion from secondary emerging to Frontier market status amid a decline in its index weight over the past few years.

Of the 100 index companies 70 closed up, 25 closed down, 2 were unchanged, while 3 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 184.39, Fertilizer with 89.9, Cement with 85.95, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 49.32, and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 27.36 points.

On the contrary, the index was let down by Leather & Tanneries with 6.69, Transport with 2.26, Real Estate Investment Trust with 0.69, Miscellaneous with 0.35, and Modarabas with 0.31 points.

Companies adding points to the index were BAHL with 61.62, ENGRO with 54.49, MCB with 37.71, PPL with 28.8, and LUCK with 25.62 points.

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were SYS with 17.47, ABL with 7.08, SRVI with 6.69, UPFL with 5.8 and PKGP with 4.56 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 44,470.33 with a net gain of 395.21 points.

Total market volume was 421.118 million shares compared to 354.598 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs16.16 billion showing an increase of Rs4.27bn.

There were 169,911 trades reported in 350 companies with 211 closing up, 110 closing down and 29 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 25,689 points or 61.97% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 4,691 points, equivalent to 7.51%.
