If the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) stop for a few more days then only Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will be responsible for the LPG crisis in Pakistan.

This was stated by Irfan Khokhar, Chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on LPG, LPG Industries Association of Pakistan (LPG Chamber of Pakistan) and LPG Distributors Association Pakistan, in a statement on Tuesday to highlight the cause of hike in LPG prices.

Khokhar said, “Import of LPG has played a keen role in filling demand and supply gap and now due to foul activities of SSGC, imports have stopped which led to hike in LPG prices.”

He said, “There has been a hike of Rs 25 per kg, Rs 290 in domestic and Rs 1,140 in commercial cylinder LPG price due to intimidation of SSGC. On the other hand, a new rise in LPG price of Rs 5 per kg, Rs 60 in domestic and Rs 240 in commercial cylinder LPG has been implemented without any notification or permission from Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

He criticized that, “SSGC has black listed Ayan Energy, the second biggest LPG importer of 2016 which imported 105815 MT in 2016 to maintain supply chain of LPG in Pakistan. Prices will continue to increase if SSGC does not stop its profane activities.”

Khokhar claimed that, “SSGC has been successful in defaming the Government by decreasing import of LPG. This had an adverse impact of LPG import hence poor people of Pakistan are suffering from shortage of this economic substitute of petrol and diesel.

He said, “Corrupt officials of SSGC have enhanced the demand of LPG by creating supply gap due to which prices are touching skies.” He urged SSGC for dialogue and said, “Evidence will soon be provided to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against SSGC.”

The new prices of commercial LPG are: Karachi Rs 90 per kg, Lahore Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faislabad, Jehlum, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Daska and Peshawar Rs 95 per kg, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadqabad, Hyderabad, Atock and Mirpur AJK Rs 115 per kg, Rawalpindi Islamabad, Abbottabad, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Kotli AJK, Tando Khan, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Nawabsha, Thatta, Dado, Jamshoro and Shikarpur Rs 120 per kg, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Nathiagali and Balakot Rs 125 per kg.
