Sale of passenger cars grows by 31% YoY in February

March 11, 2021 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of February 2021 was recorded at 13,570 units against a total production of 13,130 units, showing a decline of 7% as compared to the 14,543 units sold in January 2021, and a growth of 31% as compared to 10,345 units sold in February 2020.

The cumulative sales for 8MFY21 amounted to 95,139 units, which is nearly 20% higher than 79,534 units sold in the same period of last year.

According to a monthly report released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (PAMA), the highest volumetric sales during the month were made within the '1300 cc and Above' category’ at 6,114 units, i.e. 12% lower as compared to the previous month.

Within this category, Toyota Yaris made the highest sales at 2,566 units, whereas Honda Cars took the second lead by selling 2,192 units during the month, followed by Toyota Corolla and Suzuki Swift which sold 1,177 and 179 units, respectively.

The 'Below 1000 cc' category witnessed the second-highest number of sales at 5,158 units, i.e. higher by 7% as compared to the previous month. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded a sale of 4,245 units, whereas Suzuki Bolan saw a sale of only 913 units.

On the contrary, the ‘1000cc’ category witnessed a sale of 2,298 units, which is merely 18% lower as compared to the previous month. Within this segment, Suzuki Cultus sold 1,484 units while Suzuki WagonR sold 814 units.

The total number of trucks sold during the month under review stood at 252 units, showing a decrease of 13% against the 290 units sold in the previous month and 25% as compared to the 338 units sold in the same month of last year. Isuzu once again emerged as the best-selling truck, with sales of 97 units, while HINO, MASTER, and JAC made sales of 60, 59, and 36 units, respectively.

The overall sale of buses was recorded at 77 units, which signifies an increase of 5% as compared to 73 units sold in last month and 20% as compared to 64 unit sold during the same month of last year. Within this segment, MASTER made the maximum sales at 46 units, while HINO and ISUZU took the second and third spot by selling 24 and 7 units, respectively.
