Punjab Information Technology Board’s flagship project e-Stamping touches Rs. 41 billion

It’s a proud moment for Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) & Board of Revenue to contribute to the economy through an unprecedented success achieved by the flagship project e-Stamping with remarkable results in the shortest span of 11 months by generating the revenue worth Rs. 41 billion, which is a record after the launch of judicial / non-judicial e-Stamps.

Dr. Umar Saif founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University, Advisor to CM Punjab & Chairman PITB expressed while reviewing the performance of e-Stamping project here today.

Till now 1,584,131 citizens have visited the e-Stamping website. Total e-Stamp papers (Judicial – non judicial) that have been issued through this system are 1,596,737 out of which 1,477,984 are non-judicial and 118,753 are judicial e-Stamp papers.

Dr. Umar Saif, said that the project has replaced the century old system and has brought historic change through technology in the province of the Punjab by establishing transparency, which raised record proceeds through a citizen friendly system, by eliminating the fiscal drainage and malpractices of the past.

The outstanding achievement of this project was a proof of trust and confidence reposed by the people through acceptance of the automated service, equally beneficial for the masses and the government at large, he added.

He further said that recently PITB’s e-Stamping team was currently conducting refresher trainings for Sub Registrars and Revenue Officials in all over the Punjab with an aim to tackle counterfeiting and verification of duties using e-Stamping System.

The first Training session was held on 14th September 2017. Trainings in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur have been successfully completed while remaining training sessions would be concluded by 26th October 2017 in all over the Punjab Province.

The Chairman PITB said that e-Stamping was a step towards generating revenue through technology in most transparent way and to eradicate the chances of financial pilferage through an efficient and accountable system to contribute to the economy under the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. It has replaced 117 years old Stamp paper system introduced in 1899 in the Sub Continent during the British colonial rule.

It has now saved the common citizen from fraud, forgery, agent mafia, long queues in the treasury office and the banks as the duration of receiving Stamp papers have been reduced from three days to fifteen minutes, which is now operative in the 36 districts and 144 tehsils of the Punjab Province, he added.
