PTDC marks World Tourism Day

September 28, 2021: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has joined the global community on Monday to mark the World Tourism Day celebrated across the country and globe with a commitment to ensure inclusive growth of the sector amid the coronavirus pandemic.

To celebrate the day, the PTDC organized various events including a training workshop on the use of social media, a rock climbing competition for youth, and a paragliding event, said a news release.

Rock climbers from various institutions, clubs, and departments of different cities participated in the competitions organized for novice kids, amateur climbers, and professionals at Saidpur Village adjacent to Margalla Hills Islamabad.

The participants were from various institutions, clubs, and departments such as Roots Millennium Schools, Beaconhouse Schools System, Gosha-e-Mashal, Nusrat Jahan Academy, NUST, Rakaposhi Adventure Club, Ibex Club, DHA Climbing Team – Lahore, SNGPL Climbing Team, Shifa, and others. The boys and girls under the category of Under 9, Under 12, Under 15, Under 18, open amateur, open pro, participated in the competition.

Air Games Islamabad was held in Fatima Jinnah Park-F9 and F6 Cricket Ground, Islamabad from September 25 to 27. Air games included paragliding, paramotor flying, microlight aircraft flying, and skydiving/ parachuting disciplines.

Pakistan Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association has arranged the Air Games in collaboration with Capital Development Authority and PTDC. The 65 paragliders participated in the event.

PTDC in collaboration with Pakistan Association of Tour Operators, Pakistan Hotel Association, and Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan, also organized a training workshop on ‘online marketing & social media for promotion of tourism.

PTDC Chairman Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari congratulated the participants who took part in the rock-climbing and paragliding competitions.

Bukhari emphasized that the initiatives taken by the present government would help to promote tourism and achieve the targets of creating more opportunities for economic growth.

“Celebration of this day keeps us committed toward our goal to promote and develop tourism in Pakistan,” he added.

At the end of the competition, PTDC Managing Director Aftab Ur Rehman Rana appreciated the active participation of climbers and the paragliders.

He also thanked to The Adventure Club, Pakistan Hang Gliding, Pakistan Association of Tour Operators, Pakistan Hotel Association, and Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan for their collaboration in the events and to the international tourism training expert Angela Carson for giving an online training on ‘online marketing & social media for promotion of tourism.

Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Aftab Ur Rehman Rana distributed shields and certificates among the participants of rock climbing and Air Games competitions.
