November 24, 2021 (MLN): Turnover of shares at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reached to record-high 137.34 billion during FY21 compared to 52.38bn during FY20, the annual State of the Economy 2020-21 released by the State Bank of Pakistan showed on Wednesday.
Average monthly turnover of shares rose to 11.4bn during FY21. June 2021 saw highest monthly turnover of 20.9bn, followed by 13.6bn in September 2020 whereas November 2020 saw lowest turnover of just 6.53bn.
On the other hand, PSX market capitalization in FY21 increased to Rs8.29 trillion compared to Rs6.52tr during the same period last year. The PSX market capitalization is still low compared to the last high of Rs9.52tr seen during FY17.
Commercial banks led the sector-wise market capitalization at Rs1.3tr, followed by Rs960bn in oil and gas exploration sector, Rs744bn for food and personal care products and Rs702bn for cements.
Meanwhile, the PSX saw seven new listings during FY21 compared to zero in FY20.
