PSX Closing: Index down by 195 points

August 18, 2022 (MLN): Extending its previous sessions' gains, the capital market opened on a positive note however in the absence of fresh triggers, the bourse witnessed notable selling pressure which led the benchmark KSE-100 index to close at 43,481.50, losing  195.06 points in today's session. 

Meanwhile, PKR's downward journey towards its traditional course has also hit investors' sentiments as it lost almost 95 paisa in two consecutive sessions.

The Index traded in a range of 484.76 points or 1.11 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 43,875.72 and a low of 43,390.96.

Of the 93 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 30 closed up 61 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 220.97 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 59 points, Fertilizer with 33 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 27 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 22 points and Engineering with 19 points.

The most points taken off the index was by SYS which stripped the index of 47 points followed by UBL with 21 points, PPL with 21 points, KEL with 18 points and OGDC with 15 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Refinery with 18 points, Pharmaceuticals with 9 points, Miscellaneous with 6 points, Automobile Assembler with 1 points and Textile Spinning with 1 point.

The most points added to the index was by MEBL which contributed 15 points followed by SEARL with 9 points, MCB with 8 points, ATRL with 8 points and PSEL with 8 points.

All Share Volume increased by 13.22mn to 621.22mn shares. The market cap decreased by Rs35.61bn.

Total companies traded were 347 compared to 356 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 128 closed up, 200 closed down while 19 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 4,034 to 157,697.

Value Traded decreased by 0.63bn to Rs10.50bn
