PSX Closing Bell: Two Suns In The Sunset

December 31, 2020 (MLN): After showing a highly volatile session throughout the day, the benchmark KSE-100 index landed in consolidation by gaining just 60 points or up by 0.14% compared to yesterday’s close to settle at the 43,755 level.

According to the closing note by Aba Ali Habib Securities, the market was unable to sustain a stable trend as investors resorted to profit booking, however, even with a fickle market the session was bullish and ended CY20 trading with a gain of 7% YoY.

The Index traded in a range of 223.30 points or 0.51 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 43,891.06 and a low of 43,667.76.

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 47 closed up 47 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 320.62 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 61 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 39 points, Fertilizer with 12 points, Technology & Communication with 4 points, and Tobacco with 4 points.

The most points added to the index were by HUBC which contributed 37 points followed by UBL with 18 points, LUCK with 16 points, MLCF with 16 points, and MCB with 15 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 18 points, Insurance with 8 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 5 points, Engineering with 5 points, and Chemical with 3 points.

The most points taken off the index was by BAHL which stripped the index of 28 points followed by MEBL with 18 points, NESTLE with 9 points, ENGRO with 8 points, and PSO with 7 points.

All Share Volume increased by 122.26 Million to 578.25 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.14.96 Billion.

Total companies traded were 417 compared to 423 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 207 closed up, 193 closed down while 17 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 8,981 to 168,409.

Value Traded increased by 1.15 Billion to Rs.23.78 Billion
