March 09, 2023 (MLN): Domestic equities on Thursday remained positive on the hopes of the IMF deal in days to come which led investors to opt for value hunting. 

Though the IMF deal is not going to be signed this week, the Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Ishaq Dar remained optimistic and reiterated his commitment to completing the program to the "best" of his team's ability. 

Accordingly, the benchmark KSE-100 index ended the trading session with a gain of 226.61 points to close at 41,585.54, marking an intraday high of 41,647.63.

Of the 90 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 61 closed up 28 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 113.95 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 89 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 49 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 44 points, Fertilizers with 26 points and Commercial Banks with 22 points.

The most points added to the index were by HUBC which contributed 49 points followed by CHCC with 23 points, TRG with 17 points, EFERT with 16 points and OGDC with 15 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Miscellaneous with 79 points, Tobacco with 15 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 7 points, Textile Spinning with 4 points and Leather & Tanneries with 2 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 79 points followed by PAKT with 15 points, DAWH with 9 points, ABOT and EPCL with 4 points.

All Share Volume increased by 66.20mn to 229.09mn shares. Market Cap increased by Rs21.84 billion.

The total companies traded were 324 compared to 335 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 205 closed up, 100 closed down and 19 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 17,553 to 95,897.

Value Traded increased by 1.10bn to Rs7.43bn
