PSX Closing Bell: Syncopated Pandemonium

Mar 29, 2021 (MLN): The domestic equities rout deepened on Monday amid profit taking, as the benchmark KSE-100 lost 1,089 points in today’s trade or tumbled by 2.39% compared to Friday’s close to conclude the day at 44,431 points level.

Rising Covid cases and a higher Weekly SPI resulted in low market depth as investors adopted a cautious approach while a rumor of Mutual Fund redemptions added to the selling pressure at the bourse, Topline Securities in a market closing note said.

The Index remained negative throughout the session touching an intraday low of 44,312.97

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 6 closed up 88 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 316.17 million shares.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 193 points, Cement with 164 points, Technology & Communication with 122 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 90 points and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 89 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 133 points followed by LUCK with 58 points, MCB with 47 points, HUBC with 41 points and HBL with 39 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Real Estate Investment Trust with 2 points and Modarabas with 1 points.

The most points added to the index was by SYS which contributed 19 points followed by SPWL with 2 points, MUREB with 2 points, DCR with 2 points and AGIL with 1 point.

All Share Volume decreased by 5.33 Million to 523.88 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.191.65 Billion.

Total companies traded were 408 compared to 391 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 37 closed up, 359 closed down while 12 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 2,564 to 169,236.

Value Traded decreased by 1.67 Billion to Rs.23.51 Billion
