PSX Closing Bell: Stuck in a Rut

March 08, 2023 (MLN): Owing to the economic slowdown, delay in the IMF tranche, and political instability, the capital market on Wednesday remained lackluster. 

Investors remained cautious throughout the session as the benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session with a meager gain of 24.24 points to close at 41,358.93. 

The Index remained positive throughout the session touching an intraday high of 41,621.71.

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 43 closed up 49 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 89.27 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Power Generation & Distribution with 44 points, Commercial Banks with 41 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 23 points, Engineering with 9 points and Food & Personal Care Products with 8 points.

The most points added to the index were by HUBC which contributed 47 points followed by HBL with 24 points, OGDC with 17 points, NESTLE and BAHL with 14 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Miscellaneous with 84 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 7 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 6 points and Fertilizer with 4 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 85 points followed by UPFL with 10 points, PSO with 8 points, THALL and DAWH with 6 points.

All Share Volume increased by 2.78mn to 162.88mn shares. Market Cap increased by Rs8.74 billion.

The total companies traded were 335 compared to 322 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 148 closed up, 164 closed down and 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 4,134 to 78,344.

Value Traded increased by 1.00bn to Rs6.33bn.
