January 20, 2022 (MLN): The domestic equity market continued to witness a bearish spell owing to the selling pressure which pushed the index to make an intraday low at 44,274 as investors remained cautious over increasing Covid-19 cases across the country.

However, buying activity in the later hours offset some of the losses and the benchmark KSE-100 index concluded the session at 44,825.97, down by only 7 points.

The Index traded in a range of 600.67 points or 1.34 percent of the previous close.

Of the 94 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 51 closed up 40 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 113.66 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 83 points, Fertilizer with 23 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 18 points, Commercial Banks with 10 points and Refinery with 7 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 87 points followed by MCB with 17 points, ENGRO with 11 points, DAWH with 10 points and SYS with 9 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 66 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 29 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 21 points, Engineering with 9 points and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 8 points.

The most points added to the index was by KAPCO which contributed 23 points followed by PPL with 15 points, MLCF with 15 points, AVN with 15 points and BAHL with 13 points.

All Share Volume increased by 17.27 million to 254.21 million shares. Market cap decreased by Rs3.44 billion.

Total companies traded were 348 compared to 360 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 169 closed up, 158 closed down while 21 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 5,829 to 108,957.

Value Traded decreased by 0.92 billion to Rs7.74 billion
