March 1, 2021 (MLN): The stock market remained bearish on Monday throughout the day as it surrendered to the profit-taking activity owing to rollover week that dragged the KSE-100 index down by 271 points (0.51 per cent) to close at 45,593 points.
The bearish sentiments were due to political uncertainty ahead of senate elections scheduled on March 03, 2021.
Moreover, the high volatility in the market was further induced by steep uptick in CPI numbers for Feb’21.
The Index traded in a range of 925.65 points or 2.02 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 46,014.23 and a low of 45,088.58.
Of the 98 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 27 closed up 70 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 176.29 million shares.
Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 103 points, Textile Composite with 27 points, Pharmaceuticals with 26 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 23 points and Technology & Communication with 19 points.
The most points taken off the index was by UBL which stripped the index of 39 points followed by HBL with 32 points, BAHL with 18 points, PSO with 13 points and MARI with 12 points.
Sectors propping up the index were Chemical with 22 points, Tobacco with 9 points, Fertilizer with 7 points and Synthetic & Rayon with 2 points.
The most points added to the index was by EPCL which contributed 18 points followed by COLG with 12 points, PAKT with 9 points, LUCK with 8 points and ANL with 6 points.
All Share Volume decreased by 111.59 Million to 368.39 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.43.57 Billion.
Total companies traded were 421 compared to 417 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 111 closed up, 297 closed down while 13 remained unchanged.
Total trades decreased by 35,193 to 135,671.
