PSX Closing Bell: New Rays from an Ancient Sun

Jan 01, 2021 (MNL): Positive inflation numbers and news of IPPs and the government reaching an agreement over the payment terms of the outstanding circular debt fueled a rally on the first trading session of the New Year.

The Benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session on Friday with a 679.42 point or 1.55 percent gain to close at 44,434.80.

The Index remained positive throughout the session touching an intraday high of 44,870.90

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 55 closed up while 41 were down. Total volume traded for the index was 386.33 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 240 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 159 points, Commercial Banks with 123 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 116 points and Fertilizer with 58 points.

The most points added to the index was by HUBC which contributed 132 points followed by PPL with 103 points, OGDC with 94 points, PSO with 78 points and UBL with 46 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 21 points, Engineering with 14 points, Pharmaceuticals with 10 points, Cement with 8 points and Food & Personal Care Products with 8 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 20 points followed by CHCC with 9 points, INIL with 8 points, SEARL with 8 points and MLCF with 8 points.

All Share Volume increased by 64.37 Million to 642.62 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.97.55 Billion.

Total companies traded were 406 compared to 417 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 214 closed up, 178 closed down while 14 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 30,869 to 199,278.

Value Traded increased by 3.52 Billion to Rs.27.30 Billion
