August 22, 2024 (MLN): Bullish sentiment prevailed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) today amid strengthened expectations of monetary easing following a significant drop in yields at yesterday’s auction.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Thursday's trading session at 78,793.41, showing an increase of 532.56 points or 0.68%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 78,996.22 (+735.37) and a low of 78,442.25 (+181.40) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 184.56 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 58 closed up, 37 closed down, while 5 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were SRVI (+9.44%), PIBTL (+7.89%), NRL (+7.24%), DGKC (+5.59%), and NBP (+4.66%).

On the other hand, top losers were PTC (-3.57%), YOUW (-3.23%), JVDC (-2.25%), SCBPL (-2.08%), and MTL (-1.94%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were FFC (+148.96pts), SRVI (+62.28pts), NBP (+39.13pts), HUBC (+38.31pts), and PSO (+34.17pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were HBL (-39.26pts), ENGRO (-36.33pts), MTL (-30.61pts), MEBL (-26.81pts), and PTC (-9.11pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Cement (+146.56pts), Fertilizer (+139.36pts), Leather & Tanneries (+62.28pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+44.19pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (+40.45pts).

While the index was let down by Automobile Assembler (-37.28pts), Food & Personal Care Products (-6.34pts), Property (-4.01pts), Tobacco (-2.01pts), and Miscellaneous (-1.82pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 50,618.89 with a net gain of 303.35 points or 0.60%.

Total market volume was 804.26 million shares compared to 552.56m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs16.98 billion showing an increase of Rs2.38bn.

There were 278,046 trades reported in 472 companies with 260 closing up, 137 closing down, and 75 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 348 points or 0.44% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 16,342 points, equivalent to 26.17%.
