PSX Closing Bell: King of Pain

July 12, 2021 (MLN): The KSE-100 index ended the first session of the week with a loss of 116 points to close at the 47,447-index level, concluding today’s lackluster performance down by 0.24% DoD.

The choppy behavior of the market was due to a surge in Covid positivity ratio as it crossed 3.9% and rising uncertainty in the Afghanistan region where the Taliban claim to control 85% of the territory.

Simultaneously, the Index traded in a range of 306.76 points or 0.64 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 47,715.28 and a low of 47,408.52.

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 29 closed up 64 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 107.16 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Cement with 38 points, Technology & Communication with 23 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 15 points, Commercial Banks with 11 points and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 10 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 17 points followed by LUCK with 17 points, BAHL with 16 points, NESTLE with 11 points and CHCC with 11 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Tobacco with 13 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 13 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 9 points, Textile Spinning with 3 points and Textile Composite with 2 points.

The most points added to the index was by UNITY which contributed 20 points followed by PSX with 20 points, MCB with 14 points, PAKT with 13 points and HBL with 6 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 31.00 Million to 474.99 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.21.09 Billion.

Total companies traded were 412 compared to 406 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 136 closed up, 257 closed down while 19 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 21,312 to 129,929.

Value Traded decreased by 1.05 Billion to Rs.14.32 Billion
