PSX Closing Bell: Gains are Worth Losing…

June 07, 2021 (MLN): The capital markets opened the first day of the week on a positive note with the KSE-100 index printing an intraday high of 48,632.95, however, it surrendered to the profit-taking activity in the later half to eventually close the trade at 48,302.66-mark, up by 90.96 points from its previous closing.

The sluggish behavior of the market was due to the lack of positive triggers while investors await the upcoming budget announcement scheduled for 11th June. Investors’ sentiments remained neutral but confidence remained on a higher side as reflected in strong volumes, a market closing report by Aba Ali Habib said.

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 49 closed up 44 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 320.04 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Glass & Ceramics with 22 points, Fertilizer with 19 points, Textile Composite with 18 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 14 points and Cement with 12 points.

The most points added to the index was by SYS which contributed 27 points followed by GHGL with 22 points, KTML with 19 points, HUBC with 12 points and PTC with 11 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 13 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 11 points, Refinery with 8 points, Engineering with 6 points and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 5 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 25 points followed by PSO with 12 points, PPL with 10 points, NML with 9 points and HBL with 9 points.

All Share Volume increased by 68.79 Million to 936.09 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.35.10 Billion.

Total companies traded were 428 compared to 422 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 225 closed up, 181 closed down while 22 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 13,039 to 227,177.

Value Traded increased by 1.11 Billion to Rs.27.69 Billion
